Course Report: 5 December

The cool season turf and the maintenance team have been enjoying the cooler weather this week which has allowed the team to turn their attention from hand watering and moisture management of the cool season grasses, to focusing on aspects of the golf course maintenance that we haven’t been able to address recently.

The turf team have commenced granular application of fertiliser of all tees and green surrounds to promote growth on both of these playing surfaces, as well as work on snipping bunker edges and performing a detailed grooming of the bunkers. Work will continue through the week to complete both tasks.

The arboriculture team have continued with removal of the failing pine trees. Focus this week has been on the left hand side of the 18th hole in the group of trees between the 18th hole and 16th tees.

The horticulture team have been performing a full scheduled preventative application of insecticide to the ornamental plants around the Clubhouse, driveway and key gardens throughout the golf course.

Lastly, we received the delivery of Santa Ana couch on Monday, which has now been laid into the trial sites alongside the Zoysia around the golf course. It will be fascinating over the next period of time to manage both the Santa Ana couch and Sir Grange Zoysia and continue to monitor these grasses throughout the changing season to understand which grass type has a better fit for the Club in the long term.
